Village Partners International was created as a way for people to help people help themselves. As such, it is an effort that is worldwide, and is inclusive of all those in need. Recently VPI has established a relationship with Covenant Hospital Network, a group of individuals and churches committed to helping those in great need in the country of Haiti.
The Covenant Hospital Network is a group of committed Christian individuals and congregations in support of the mission and operation of Covenant Hospital through spiritual, financial, medical, and material contributions. Working in the name of Jesus Christ, the Network functions to advise and coordinate the response of caring and compassionate US congregations to the critical healthcare needs of the people of the Mombin Crochu region. By working closely with the hospital’s medical and administrative staff, and also with community leaders, we are able to direct support to the areas of greatest current healthcare need.
Essential medications for treatment of the sick and injured are continually in short supply. Recent reports tell us the pharmacy medicine stock is very low. Basic hospital materials like wound dressings, mattresses, gloves, and IV fluids are also lacking. Dental care is essentially non-existent. Brutal roads and heavy use force frequent repairs and maintenance work on the vehicles used to transport patients and supplies. The infrastructure of the hospital building and the solar electrical and water systems, as well as the laboratory and basic x-ray, are in need of updating and repairs. It is to these needs that the Covenant Hospital Network is pledged.
How can we as Christians, called by Jesus himself into ministry for the sick and the poor, work together to help provide assistance and solutions for these critical hardships which daily face the people of rural Haiti?
Covenant Hospital and its ministry needs financial support !! Contributions will make a difference !! They will make possible the purchase of crucial medications, supplies, and instruments, and will enable the doctors and nurses to effectively treat increasing numbers of sick and injured patients. Funds will provide for laboratory and x-ray diagnosis, and will play a vital role in health education and preventive medicine throughout the region. A reserve account has been started for the purchase of vehicle repair and service parts to help keep the truck and land cruiser performing their life-line tasks for the hospital. Even small gifts given from the resources of our congregations make a huge positive difference for the health and hope of this poor region.
Covenant Hospital needs volunteers in mission !! The new Haitian government offers us renewed hope for security within the country, where mission volunteers have so much to offer to the people. Medical, surgical, dental, and building and systems support teams are welcomed and greatly needed at Covenant Hospital. None of us should feel inadequate to the tasks of mission work in healthcare. Each and every talent and skill can be put to use in the many challenges of medical and spiritual assistance for the people, and building and repair work to keep the hospital serving others those in need.
Covenant Hospital is an effective message to the Haitian people of the love and action of Jesus Christ, alive today in their troubled and needy world.
