Immunization

A special dispatch from VPI’s community partners in Papoli, Uganda
By Emmanuel Ofumbi

Health workers educating mothers and immunizing children at the facility

We receive mothers every Tuesday who bring children for immunization and these children are immunized against communicable diseases like polio, tetanus, Tuberculosis etc. The mothers are also given Tetanus toxoid and girls of 9-15 years given HPV to prevent them from cervical cancer.

Mothers are also health educated on importance of immunization and family planning and they were encouraged to bring them when they are due.

The challenge is we do not have separate place for immunization we use OPD department to carry out immunization so there is need for a specific place for immunization.
