Uganda – Jay and Janice Jester Maternity & Outpatient Clinics

Clinics which provide antenatal and postnatal care, public health education and safe deliveries, as well as outpatient services to adults and elderly.

The maternal mortality rate in Uganda stands at 438/100,000 births, most due to the lack of prenatal care or delivery outside of a healthcare facility. Realizing the lack of such a facility in Papoli, Uganda, VPI began raising funds to build a clinic where safe delivery of children could occur, and pre-natal care could be given.

With a generous donation by Jay and Janice Jester, the Jay and Janice Jester Maternity and Outpatient Clinic opened in 2013. Since then, an average of 150 births have occurred yearly, with no infant or maternal mortality.

Classes are given for ante-natal and post-natal care, and recently the facility has partnered with Marie Stopes International Uganda to work with expanding and improving care.
The Outpatient area located within the clinic  cares for the elderly and vulnerable adults in the community.

As the need grows, VPI will continue to raise funds to help support this facility and continue care for pregnant mothers, infants and the elderly.
